It’s one of the biggest series’ of the season. Entering the final weekend of the MLB season, the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals are battling it out over a three-game set.

Every other division has been clinched, aside from the NL Central. The Cardinals hold a slim 1 game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers, who face the Colorado Rockies this weekend.

BetOnline LogoBoth the Cardinals and Brewers have already punched their ticket into the postseason, but the teams are looking to avoid playing the one-game Wild Card playoff.

Focusing on the Cardinals and Cubs, it’s been a story of opposites over the past few weeks. The Cardinals have been unstoppable and have been one of the top teams in the league since the All-Star break.

As for the Cubs, their coveted division lead has slowly slipped away. They have lost 9 straight games entering this final weekend.

Earlier in the season, err, earlier this month the Cardinals knocked out the Cubs from playoff contention. While the Cubs cannot end the Cardinals’ push to the postseason, they can end their bid at winning the Central Division.

The Cardinals are setting themselves up for a victory tonight. Dakota Hudson will get the start when he faces Alec Mills. Hudson is 16-7 this season while Mills is 1-0 with a 2.90 ERA. Hudson certainly has more experience on the mound entering this game, despite being two-years younger.

The Cardinals could miss Kolten Wong for this series but he is expected to return for the postseason. Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo are both sidelined for the remainder of the year with ankle injuries.
