After dismantling Team Germany 16-2 to open up the World Junior tournament, Canada faces another undefeated team later today.

Putting their modest 1-0 record on the line, both Canada and Slovakia look to improve to 2-0 in the early going of the tournament.

Slovakia opened their tournament up with a solid win over the Swiss, 1-0. It wasn’t a major upset, but Switzerland was the favorite entering that contest. A win tonight could be the biggest upset in the tournament for Slovakia.

Canada scored 16 goals against a German team that iced 14 skaters and were playing on consecutive days. It will be interesting to see if Canada loses a hop to start the game. I don’t expect the Canadians to lose any steam once puck drop happens.

Team Canada virtually had no competition with Germany, as the game winning goal was scored in the first period of the game.

Slovakia is looking to improve their odds of leaving Group B. We expect either Finland or Canada to finish as the 1-2 seed, but there is room for that third spot. A win tonight would greatly improve Slovakia’s chances at reaching the tournament playoff.

Slovakian netminder Simon Latkoczy was brilliant in their 1-0 victory. Stopping 28 shots, I expect him to be peppered once again tonight.

Canada is easily the favorite in this contest, but could we see a monumental upset tonight? Crazier things have happened.

With that being said, Team Canada is buzzing and Slovakia is riding high after a huge win over Switzerland.
