Liverpool had a tough start to 2021, but they are finishing the calendar year very strong and have already scored 50 league goals this season, which is the club’s best-ever mark across the first 18 games of a league season.

Mohamed Salah has been on a tear but Diogo Jota is quietly also having a wonderful campaign. He’s already notched a career-high 10 goals in the Premier League this season and his work includes six goals in the last seven league outings.

Jota scored in the League Cup match against Leicester last week and he’s had a lot of success in the matchup in the Premier League as well, netting four goals in four games.

Leicester gave up six goals to Manchester City on Boxing Day and their defense could be in for another long night at the office here.

The Foxes have been far from their best this season and they are currently going through a horrible injury crisis, especially at the back. Ricardo Pereira, Jonny Evans, Caglar Söyüncü, Wesley Fofana and James Justin are all key guys in defense for Brendan Rodgers, but they are out with various problems and it’s led to Leicester giving up 33 goals already this season.

The Leicester defense has been shaky throughout 2021 with 63 goals conceded in 39 Premier League games, and they have done worse only in 2001 (66) and 2017 (64).

It almost looks like the best possible matchup for Liverpool and their red-hot offense, but Jürgen Klopp’s men almost got burned against Leicester last Wednesday and you can never underestimate a team that has Jamie Vardy at its disposal.

Vardy got injured at Anfield and sat out the defeat to City but is expected to play on Tuesday. The veteran striker has netted 10 career goals in 14 appearances against Liverpool, scoring more only against Arsenal (11). He can pop up with a goal out of nothing and his presence on the pitch should help Leicester to stay competitive despite their injury woes.
