Jürgen Klopp’s team went 68 league games unbeaten at Anfield but has now suffered back-to-back losses for the first time since 2012 and is winless in four outings. Liverpool haven’t even scored in three consecutive home games, which marks the club’s worst run in 37 years.
It’s all doom and gloom around the champions at the moment, but hosting City has brought a lot of success for Liverpool over the years as they are unbeaten in 17 in the league with 12 wins during the run against the Citizens, whose only win during their last 29 trips to Anfield came in 2003.
Liverpool remains without a number of key players, but the team should at least get Alisson back in goal after the Brazilian missed the Brighton game on Wednesday with illness, and Sadio Made and Fabinho have a chance to be featured as well.
City are without Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Agüero, but Pep Guardiola’s team hasn’t missed the star duo much as they are currently on a club-record 13-game winning run across all competitions. Another win at Anfield would equal the record winning streak by a top-flight English club, which was last achieved by Arsenal in 1987.
Guardiola’s team is unbeaten in 13 league outings and they have been ruthless with their play since December 19 recording nine straight victories and collecting eight clean sheets. They will be going for a club-record seventh straight clean sheet in the Premier League.
City have a two-point lead at the top of the table and two games in hand compared to second-placed Manchester United. Winning at Anfield would be a huge sign of intent to reclaim the Premier League crown, and the team’s confidence should be sky-high after putting together a historic run to take the league-lead after a lackluster start to the season.
