Formula 1 is back this week starting on Friday, September 30th at the famous Singapore city circuit. Can Max Verstappen claim the title early on or will Ferrari find a way to remain in the title race? UK bookmaker William Hill has the latest odds on this deciding race.
※ Current Odds Date & Time: September 24th, 9:00 A.M. (EST)
The odds as is to be expected favour the current champion, Max Verstappen, to claim victory at the Singapore Grand Prix. Given his form in the past few months, this isn’t at all surprising as he seems to effortlessly sweep away the competition. Verstappen’s main rival, Charles Leclerc, is following close behind with the odds on him priced at 5.50. A rather fair sum given Ferrari’s performance in recent months.
The famous Singapore city race takes us to the streets of the Marina Bay Street Circuit, a 5.063 km long track featuring 3 DRS zones and 23 sharp corners challenging the drivers and pushing them to their limits.
Williams driver Alex Albon describes the circuit as “like driving through a tunnel! You go so fast you can barely make out the objects around you, it’s crazy!”. Not only that but the circuit is often described as one of the most physically demanding tracks on the F1 calendar to date. With humid conditions, drivers can lose up to 3 kg in a single race due to the immense stress caused by such conditions and the bumpy street surface.
What to expect?
As Monza has shown, Ferrari is indeed capable of producing well planned strategies and execute them accordingly. If they can keep it up for this week’s race then we could see another Ferrari podium finish. Perhaps even a victory since Singapore is Ferrari’s lucky track.
Keep in mind that last time we raced here, Ferrari took a 1-2 finish with Vettel and Leclerc. The stakes for Ferrari have never been higher as they aim to remain in the race for the 2022 Constructors’ Championship.
When it comes to Red Bull, it is hard to imagine something going wrong that could compromise their weekend. Even though Sergio Perez isn’t performing quite as well as Max Verstappen, he still hauls a decent amount of points for his team giving Red Bull an edge over Ferrari in the overall standings.
Verstappen, as has become customary at this point, is expected to take victory no less. Unless something goes horribly wrong such as perhaps an engine failure or a pitstop, it is hard to imagine anything less than a victory for Max.
Finally then we come to the midfield runners. With McLaren performing extraordinarily well at Monza it is safe to assume their upgrades have proved fruitful. Even Daniel Ricciardo seems to have caught up with Lando Norris’ pace and is now a serious points contender given McLaren’s recent form. Unless catastrophe strikes, such as it did at Monza, we can expect a tight Alpine-McLaren battle in the midfield for the 4th spot in the Constructors’ Championship.
In the end, this race may as well prove crucial for the remainder of the championship. Will Max claim his 2nd title in Singapore? We’ll have to wait and see!
