OpTic Looks to Defend Their Crown as VCT Copenhagen Kicks Off

North American team OpTic gaming are favorites to win VCT Masters Copenhagen as they try to lift their second trophy in a row. Pinnacle has the latest outright odds on the event.

Despite XSET upsetting OpTic during the Stage 2 North America Challengers with a decisive 3-1 score, Optic’s experience in the world stage certainly boosted their odds. This also takes into consideration getting their first win of the 2022 tour during Masters Reykjavik and scoring second in last year’s stage 3 tour when the core was still playing under Envy. All eyes will be on OpTic yay who is dangerous with the Operator and can single-handedly carry his team in some stretches.

Pinnacle LogoPinnacle shows OpTic on top of the outright winner market coming in with odds at 3.50 followed by last VCT Master’s runner-up, Brazil’s LOUD at 3.93. North America is the highly favored region at 2.21.

While both teams have certainly dominated their respective regions, EMEA boasts a newly reformed Fnatic with the additions of Enzo and Alfajer for this stage providing positive results right off the bat with a playoff berth. FunPlus Phoenix will be looking to showcase their talent as travel restrictions prevented them from playing in VCT Reykjavik main stage despite qualifying. Meanwhile, the EMEA scene’s staple team in Guild Esports finally qualifies for an international event for the first time and are poised to be tested in the international LAN stage.

Group stage will kick off with South Korea’s DRX matching up against Japan’s Northeption. DRX have turned a lot of heads during Reykjavik coming out of nowhere to get a 5-6 placing in their first international appearance. As for Northeption, they shockingly won 3-1 against Zeta Gaming who got into Reykjavik’s semi-final with a miracle run of their own. Let’s not forget that Northeption failed to enter top 4 in their region just a qualifier ago. A single roster change swapping in Derialy for Xandrite made all the difference for the Japanese-Korean roster mix who are considered the underdogs of the tournament.

Other first timers XSET and Leviathan won their respective regions and received group stage exceptions that guaranteed them a top 8 finish. They are joined by Fnatic and Paper Rex. Paper Rex’s explosive game play with Forsaken and Jing’s aggressive double duelists setup is both effective and entertaining and will be something to look forward to come playoff time.

Returnees KRU and XERXIA are gunning for better placements in Copenhagen after missing the playoffs in VCT Reykjavik in which they fell early on during the group stage.

Will an underdog run threaten the heavy favorites or will OpTic maintain their dominance and defend their title? Or perhaps another team will be crowned champions in VCT Masters Copenhagen.
