Spurs struggled against their North London neighbors and have had very little success against Chelsea away from home. The Blues have lost only one of their last 33 home matches in the Premier League to Tottenham, going down 3-1 in 2018, when Mauricio Pochettino was still in charge of the Lilywhites.

Pochettino could now become the first manager to do a double against Tottenham in the Premier League. He’s had a disappointing campaign with his team, but one of Chelsea’s biggest results of the season came in November against Tottenham when the Blues crushed the opposition 4-1.

Nicolas Jackson produced a hat trick, and Tottenham finished with nine men in the first head-to-head battle of the season. Cole Palmer also scored in the reverse fixture and has a chance to match a unique record set by Erling Haaland a season ago.

The Manchester City forward became the first player in Premier League history to score a hat trick in three consecutive home games. Palmer can match the feat after rocking against Manchester United and Everton. He has already set a club record by netting at least once in seven straight home matches.

Chelsea has very little to be happy about in the 2023-24 campaign, but Palmer’s form is definitely a plus. The 21-year-old has looked unplayable at times, racking up 20 goals and nine assists in 28 Premier League appearances. Half of Palmer’s goals have come in his last six outings.

Palmer has an opportunity to keep his good form going against a fragile defense. Spurs have conceded seven goals across their last two games and 28 goals in 16 away outings. Ange Postecoglou likes to play expansive football, but it has left a number of gaps behind, and Tottenham has been punished regularly for it.

Earlier in the season, Postecoglou’s men were able to disguise the problems by scoring at a very good rate, but they have recently lacked the cutting edge to pull off victories. Away from home, Tottenham has triumphed just twice since the beginning of December.

Son Heung-min will hope to drag his team out of the rut. He has just ended a three-game scoring drought in the league, which matched his season-worst run. The Korean superstar has produced several big derby performances in his Premier League career, but his numbers against Chelsea have been lacking. Son last scored a league goal against the Blues in 2018 and has struck only twice in total across 15 appearances in the match-up.
