The Red Wings started their winning streak a couple of weeks back with a pair of road victories and have also picked up some great results at home lately. The recent run of good form includes a 2-1 overtime win against a top-class Colorado team.

Patrick Kane scored the game-winner against the Avalanahce and has also just enjoyed a memorable return to Chicago with another overtime goal. The 2016 MVP has truly turned back the clock lately by picking up points in bunches and putting together a nine-game scoring streak. The prolific run includes five goals and nine assists.

With Kane in sizzling form, the Red Wings even exploded for an eight-goal outing last time out against Washington, and there probably isn’t a worse time to face them, especially with the Islanders themselves going through a rocky patch.

A tough road game against Dallas ended in a 3-2 overtime victory for the Islanders on Monday, but new head coach Patrick Roy has only achieved a 5-5-3 record with the team. There have been some bad nights at the office on the attacking front, and the typically rock-solid Ilya Sorokin has struggled to show off consistent form all season.

After going 70-46-18 through his first three seasons in the league and allowing 2.34 goals with a .924 save percentage, Sorokin’s goals-against average has jumped to 3.11 in 2023-24. He still carries a winning record with 18-13-11, but it’s been a difficult year for him, and Sorokin’s struggles include a 4-3 overtime loss to Detroit in the first meeting of the season.

A three-goal third period helped the Red Wings end a brief two-game losing streak in the head-to-head series in October, with the team winning 4-3 at UBS Arena. The two sides have been very tightly matched in recent seasons, with the Red Wings winning four and the Islanders three clashes since the start of the 2020-21 campaign. However, the Islanders are without a win in Motown since 2019, losing three visits on the bounce with a combined score of 9-4.
