The Reds started their Champions League campaign in shaky form when they allowed AC Milan to win the first half against them at Anfield, but they turned the score around after the break and haven’t looked back since then.
Only six clubs had previously completed the group stage in the Champions League with a perfect record before Liverpool and Ajax joined the list this season. It’s been a great run by Jürgen Klopp’s team and they will want to have a lot more success in the knockout stages.
It’s a huge challenge for Inter with Liverpool having lost just four times in the Champions League since winning the competition in 2019. Klopp has solidified his defense again this season and his side has been shut out just twice in 2021-22.
With a guy like Mohamed Salah leading the charge, it’s almost impossible to stop Liverpool from scoring. He’s been in spectacular form throughout the campaign and his heroics include seven Champions League goals in just 466 minutes of action.
Inter have drawn blanks four times this season and they’ve finished without a goal at home just once since the start of 2021. Edin Dzeko has already surpassed his goals tally from last year with 14 strikes and Lautaro Martinez comes right behind him with 12 goals.
The Nerazzurri will want to get as many goals on the board as they can on Wednesday as it will be very difficult to compete with Liverpool at Anfield. The six-time European champions are closing in on a 12-month unbeaten run on home turf.
The home crowd should give a lot of confidence to Simone Inzaghi’s team, but producing a top-notch performance might still prove to be difficult as the hosts have a key player in Nicolo Barella missing via a suspension. He’s one of the biggest creative forces on the team and Inzaghi needs to find a way to keep the midfield ticking without the Italian international.
