It’s been a very inconsistent season for the Nerazzurri, but they have heated up at the right time and are now very close to getting back into the Champions League final for the first time since 2010.

Simone Inzaghi’s men blew away Milan with a couple of quick goals last week and the Rossoneri offered very little threat going forward, registering only one shot on goal. Andre Onana became the first Inter goaltender ever with seven clean sheets in a single Champions League campaign and this was probably the easiest of them all.

Inter has looked great defensively during their seven-game winning streak, recording five clean sheets, but the attack has also been buzzing. They have averaged three goals per game during the run, netting at least twice in all but one match. Considering the impressive streak, Milan’s chances of a comeback look very slim, but anything can happen in a derby and a two-goal deficit isn’t impossible to overcome.

However, with Milan having won only three of their last 10 matches across all competitions, even the most optimistic Rossoneri fans probably have difficulty believing that the team can mount a comeback Tuesday. Especially after Milan followed up the loss to Inter with another 2-0 defeat in the league against lowly Spezia.

Milan will need to produce a much better all-around performance in the return leg. The team clearly has to get off to a better start and must avoid conceding at all cost. Up front, there’s extra help on its way in the form of Rafael Leao.

The Portuguese ace was forced to miss the first game against Inter with an abductor problem and wasn’t available over the weekend either, but Leao has returned to training and is on track to feature Tuesday. Leao’s performances have been quite inconsistent in recent months, but he’s been involved in 26 goals across all competitions this season and his presence on the pitch is bound to make Milan a much bigger threat.
