Inter were scoring goals for fun earlier in the campaign and even had a 39-game scoring streak in Serie A, but the attack has gone completely cold ever since their Champions League meeting with Liverpool.

Following a goalless draw against Milan in the Italian Cup on Tuesday, Inter have gone four straight games without a goal and they are in danger of completely blowing their promising season apart.

Another poor offensive effort against a poor defensive team like Salernitana would be a huge blow for the team’s confidence. Everybody has to chip in, but a lot of the focus will be on Lautaro Martinez.

The Argentine forward has a personal 624-minute scoring drought across all competitions, which is his worst run without a goal since joining Inter in 2018. He hasn’t provided a single assist during the dry spell either.

Martinez’s last league goal came in the first meeting with Salernitana, which Inter easily won 5-0 away from home. It was one of many heavy defeats the newly-promoted side suffered in December and January, and following a run of just one win in 15 league outings, they now find themselves in a very tough spot. The Granata are rooted to the bottom of the table 10 points adrift from safety.

It’s been a major struggle for Salernitana ever since the season started and even two managerial changes haven’t steadied the ship. It’s no doubt been a major disappointment for the club after bringing in plenty of quality players like Franck Ribery and Federico Fazio.

A run of four consecutive draws gives hope to Salernitana that they aren’t very far away from getting things to click, but there’s not a lot of the season left anymore and facing Inter is only the start of a tough set of fixtures. Match-ups against Juventus and Roma are also coming up over the next few weeks.

The team badly needs to start picking up wins and most importantly, has to stop conceding goals. Salernitana have managed just one clean sheet over the course of the season and they have given up multiple goals in 16 of their 25 fixtures.
