The early exits of top teams like Vitality, Faze Clan, and NIP blew the Major wide open as outside of the two favorite teams everyone else is out of the top 5 in HLTV rankings. The number 1 team in the world failed to secure a single win going 0-3 much to the surprise of the entire CS:GO fan base. They even got eliminated by Bad News Eagle, who are ranked 17 and were actually thought to lose out on the tournament very early on.
After dropping their first two best of ones in the challenger’s stage, Cloud9 has yet to drop a single map and have gone 6-0 to secure their legends ticket and another 4-0 to make it to the playoffs. Awper Sh1ro carried much of their games with a 1.40 rating across the four maps they have played, which is only behind Brazilian star Yuurih who sits at 1.42.
The team took its time to hit their stride but now with all the wheels in motion, the rest of the team caught up to Sh1ro and have dominated ever since. Navi on the other hand was on the brink of elimination going 1-2 after very close games against Vitality, Cloud9, and Team Liquid. They managed to win against Bad News Eagles 2-0 the day after BNE eliminated Faze Clan.
S1mple and the rest of Navi have been looking a bit shaky. This tournament should be the last that stand in sdy will play for the team as it seems like he is failing to catch up with the rest of the team in terms of tactics and fragging. Despite this, they have pulled out convincing wins to make it past the legends.
This Major has four of the eight teams coming out of the CIS region with Outsiders and Team Spirit joining Cloud9 and Navi. Outsiders have steadied themselves as one of the best teams in the world despite losing YEKINDAR and replacing Buster and Sanji. Team Spirit, on the other hand, has showed an insane amount of firepower with their youngsters in magixx, w0nderful, and patsi. Under the leadership of igl chopper, the sky seems to be the limit for these fraggers.
Furia will be the lone South American representative in Brazil and will for sure have the crowd in behind them. They will be facing Navi first in the quarterfinal that will for sure be a tall task.
Will the Brazilians reign supreme on their home turf? Or will they fall in front of their home crowd against CS:GO’s premier roster?
