India vs. Bangladesh ODI Series: India To Be Cautious Against Bangladesh In Their Favourite Format

With the ODI World Cup 2023 nearing, team India’s regulars return for the 50-over game and are gearing up to face Bangladesh in the 3-match ODI series.

As the hosts of World Cup 2023, India has already qualified for ODI World Cup Super League 2023 while Bangladesh confirmed their guaranteed qualification having won 12 of their 18 CWCSL games.

10Bet LogoIndia’s bowling unit is a threat to Bangladesh and bookmaker 10bet predicts that Bangladesh will score over 93 runs in the first 25 hours with the odds of 1.74. However, there is also a likelihood that Bangladesh will score less than 94 with sportsbook giving us odds of 1.83 of that happening.

Post missing the India tour of New Zealand, key players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul are being included in the ODI squad versus Bangladesh. Having scored the most runs in ODIs for India this year, Shikhar Dhawan has a whopping 670 runs in less than 19 matches including 6 half-centuries.

Shreyas Iyer, coming in with the next most runs of 615 runs in 12 innings (an average of 61.50), made the ODI team too. However, Shubman Gill was left out even with his 638 runs in ODIs at an average of 70.88.

This year just three Indian batsmen have hit an ODI century in Shikhar Dhawan, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant. Rajat Patidar and Rahul Tripathi have also been included in the team along with all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed.

The bowling department comprises Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, Deepak Chahar, Umran Malik and Kuldeep Sen, Shahbaz Ahmed, Washington Sundar, and Axar Patel. Shockingly, India’s best wicket-taker for ODIs, Yuzvendra Chahal, has been left out even though his excellence has been claimed on Bangladesh’s pitches.

Among the players chosen, Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur had the most ODI wickets for India this year with 18 each in 12 and 13 matches. Deepak Chahar has taken 9 wickets in 6 matches, Axar Patel has 8 wickets, and Washington Sundar has 7 wickets. Along with Umran Malik, who had a terrific debut series against New Zealand, the Indian bowlers will undoubtedly pose a tough challenge.

For Bangladesh, Litton Das with 500 runs in 10 matches (62.50 average) is the top ODI scorer. Bangladesh’s captain Tamim Iqbal will not be joining the series despite his good form of 408 runs, an average of 79.68. Afif Hossain (335 runs) and Mamudullah (299 runs) have strengthened the batting unit by stepping up multiple times. Litton Das will lead the team in the absence of Tamim Iqbal.

In bowling, Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been the top bowler with 20 wickets in 12 matches. Musftafizur Rahman (12 wickets), Shakib Al Hasan (8 wickets) along with Shoriful Islam, Hasan Mahmud, Ebadot Hossain and Nasum Ahmed form the bowling unit. Taskin Ahmed (12 wickets) will miss one of the matches of the ODI.

With Bangladesh’s current form and also playing at home, bookmaker 10bet has predicted Bangladesh to win the series with the odds of 1.25. Although India has a formidable unit and is expected to give tough competition to Bangladesh, they come in as underdogs with odds of 3.75.

Virat Kohli is 30 runs shy of becoming the second hitter to reach 1000 ODI runs in Bangladesh. With his recent T20I form, there couldn’t be a better spot for Kohli to regain his ODI rhythm after averaging 21.87 runs in eight games this year.

Litton Das has an average of 62.50 and scored 500 runs in ODIs. But now, there’s an extra responsibility, which is leading in Tamim’s absence. It’ll be fascinating to see his reaction to the new challenge. Bangladesh’s captaincy is quite a tale of late.

The absence of Tamim should be lessened by Shakib, who bats third. Additionally, Yasir Ali could play as an extra batter for Bangladesh. With absent Taskin, Ebadot might replace him.

With Shami ruled out of the series, young Umran Malik has been called up. If India decides to debut Kuldeep Sen, Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar will likely play.

This time, India should not want to underestimate Bangladesh, especially at home where the hosts have not suffered a bilateral ODI series loss since their loss to England in October 2016.

As always, Bangladesh relies on their experienced players to carry them through.
