ATP Australian Open 2024 | Can Anyone Stop Djokovic Down Under?

There’s nothing quite like the Australian Open. The season is fresh, players have learnt new tricks and rested their bodies in the off-season, and fans are rearing to go and watch some tennis. The good news is, 15 days of jam-packed tennis action await in Melbourne, with a Grand Slam champion crowned at the end of it.

Novak Djokovic heads to Australia in pursuit of his 11th Australian Open title and record-extending 25th Grand Slam overall. With the Serb having won three out of four majors last year, the big question is can anyone stop him this fortnight? Carlos Alcaraz will certainly try his best, as will Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev. Whether or not they’ll succeed is another question.

ウィリアムヒルWe break down the latest betting odds from bookmaker William Hill and outline the best bets to make on the 2024 Australian Open ahead of its new start day this Sunday.

Current Odds Date & Time: January 13th, 1:00 P.M. (GMT)

Looking at the outright betting odds ahead of the 2024 Australian Open, bookmaker William Hill has Novak Djokovic a heavy favourite at 2.00 to defend his title. Behind him is two-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz on 4.33, ahead of recent Masters winner Jannik Sinner at 7.00. Daniil Medvedev, former US Open champion, is also within touching distance at 10.00, before the odds shift significantly to Alexander Zverev, who pays 26.00 for victory in Melbourne.

The most likely final match is predictably Djokovic vs. Alcaraz at 4.00. This is followed by Djokovic vs. Medvedev and Sinner vs. Alcaraz, which return 9.00 and 13.00 respectively.

Current Odds Date & Time: January 13th, 1:00 P.M. (GMT)

In terms of betting on an outright winner ahead of the Australian Open, we say it’s quite straight forward. There’s little reason to believe Djokovic won’t claim his 11th title this January, considering his form in 2023, his current motivation levels, and the fact there’s no evident decline in his physicality at age 36.

However, given that this only returns 2.00, perhaps an alternative proposition bet would be the best path of action. Wagering on Grigor Dimitrov to win his quarter could be a lucrative option. The Bulgarian had a stellar season in 2023, capped off by making the Paris Masters final in November. Having just broken his title drought last week in Brisbane, the 32-year-old is playing brilliant, clean tennis, reminiscent of when he was No. 3 in the world six years ago.

Dimitrov is seeded to meet Daniil Medvedev in a quarter-final, and there’s a good chance he topples the Russian. The pair met just recently in Paris, and it was Dimitrov’s first win over the world No. 3 since 2021. However, wins against Medvedev typically come in pairs (just ask Jannik Sinner), so it wouldn’t be a surprise if Dimitrov moves through from his quarter. With a return of 5.50, this is a handy bet to take.
