The Australian Open 2024 gets underway this Sunday at Melbourne Park, and the women’s draw is stacked. The world’s top four are all in brilliant form and there are a handful of exciting, unseeded players in the mix as well. In a contrast to years gone by, the WTA Tour looks like it’s going to produce a hotly contested Grand Slam this January.
Iga Swiatek heads to Melbourne having never lifted the trophy here despite being the world No. 1. The Pole will be hoping to continue her United Cup momentum and change that fact over the coming fortnight, but she’ll have some real competition. Aryna Sabalenka is the defending champion and a brute on hard courts, while Coco Gauff has just won the US Open and Kazakh Elena Rybakina lifted a trophy in Brisbane last week. Who will prevail?
We break down the latest odds from bookmaker William Hill to answer this question and outline the best bets to make on the WTA Australian Open 2024 this week.
※ Current Odds Date & Time: January 13th, 5:00 A.M. (GMT)
Despite never having won the tournament, Iga Swiatek is the strong favourite to win “down under” with odds of 3.25 at bookmaker William Hill. Behind her is defending champion Aryna Sabalenka at 5.50, closely followed by last year’s runner-up, Elena Rybakina. Coco Gauff is also right in the mix at 6.00, before the odds more than triple, with Jessica Pegula rounding out the top five at 19.00.
The most likely final is a meeting between Swiatek and Sabalenka, with this outcome paying 6.50. Next is a Swiatek vs. Gauff clash at 9.00, followed by a repeat of last year’s final between Sabalenka and Rybakina at 11.00.

In terms of the best bets to make on the WTA Australian Open, we say it’s not with the favourite Swiatek. While Swiatek is an excellent player and a great chance to win, she simply doesn’t feel twice as likely compared to someone like Coco Gauff.
On that note, betting on Gauff to win the 2024 Australian Open is an excellent bet. The American returns a whopping 6.50 to win the tournament despite her being the most recent Grand Slam champion on the WTA Tour.
Gauff excels on hardcourts and is on an amazing streak of form. Prior to winning the US Open last year, she had won her first WTA 500 event in Washington and WTA 1000 event in Cincinnati. To top it off, she began the year in 2024 by winning the WTA 250 event in Auckland, defending a title for the first time in her career. With sky-high confidence and clearly a game that’s working, Gauff is our pick to go all the way in Melbourne.
