The second of two ATP 500 events this week sees some of the biggest names in men’s tennis heading to Acapulco, Mexico for the Abierto Mexicano Telcel presentado por HSBC. With plenty of ranking points and prize money on the line, as well as invaluable form ahead of the Sunshine Double next week, fans can expect a brilliant week of tennis ahead.
Alex de Minaur is the defending champion in Acapulco and will need to shake off an early loss last week in Mexico if he’s to have any chance of going back-to-back this week. Top seeds Alexander Zverev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Casper Ruud will offer stiff competition with each coming off deep runs in Los Cabos recently, while the return of Holger Rune under a new coach will offer an element of unpredictability to the draw as well.
We look at the latest odds from bookmaker William Hill and outline the best bets to make on the Mexican Open 2024 this week.

Looking at the outright betting odds from bookmaker William Hill, it’s top seed Alexander Zverev who is favoured to win the title in Acapulco this week, paying 5.50 for victory. Behind the German are Alex de Minaur and Holger Rune, both level on 7.50. Stefanos Tsitsipas is right in the mix also with odds of 8.00 as is Taylor Fritz, also on 8.00 to win. Ben Shelton and Casper Ruud round out the favourites with a return of 12.00 at bookmaker William Hill.
Betting on the Mexican Open 2024 is challenging, as there’s no one player who is the overwhelming favourite to win. Zverev, Ruud and Tsitsipas all played well last week, while still falling short of the title. De Minaur is the defending champion but crashed out early in Los Cabos. Rune has top five skill but has been through some rocky off the court challenges so far this year, while Shelton has been out of action for a fortnight.
This leaves Taylor Fritz as the only really solid betting option heading into Acapulco. The American has made the final here before, losing to Rafael Nadal in 2020, and comes to Mexico off the back of a successful title defence in Delray Beach earlier this month. His form in the Australian Open was impressive too, and the world No. 10 will be focused on building some momentum heading into Indian Wells. Backing him to win at 8.00 is a great bet in our opinion.
However, those who would prefer to take a slightly more conservative route may want to consider quarter betting. Bookmaker William Hill is offering odds of 3.25 for someone from the third quarter to win the title. This includes Taylor Fritz, as well as Casper Ruud, Ben Shelton and five other players. We say these are great odds to have three of the top seven favourites and is an excellent way of hedging some risk this week.
