Will Daniel Cormier Leave UFC 252 As Heavyweight Champion?

Good things come in threes and tonight we will see the third contest between Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier.

One of the most notable trilogies in UFC history, Miocic and Cormier are fighting for the third time in just over two years.

Cormier picked up the first victory between the pair, knocking out Miocic in the opening round of UFC 226 and winning the UFC Heavyweight Championship.

Fast forward nearly a year later to August 17, 2019, and Miocic would get the upper hand on Cormier in the 4th round. Taking back the belt, Miocic now defends the title once again tonight, and Cormier looks to strike twice against his rival.

The two heavyweights have a long history against one another. They were coaches during The Ultimate Fighter and have traded the heavyweight belt over the past two years.

Adding to the hype of this event, UFC president Dana White said this fight will determine the greatest heavyweight in UFC history, with others believing it will determine the greatest heavyweight in MMA history.

This contest is expected to be the final fight for Cormier. The 41-year-old enters this bout having lost his last fight, and no one is sure he’ll want to try and rebound from two straight losses.

Could the confines of the cage determine the outcome of this contest? The UFC Apex uses a smaller cage, which is advantageous for wrestlers, like Cormier. Miocic’s camp has tried to advocate for a larger cage but to no avail.

Tonight may be the last time we see Daniel Cormier fighting in a UFC octagon. Will he come out on top as heavyweight champion?
