Les Bleus have gone winless in back-to-back outings for the first time since 2018 and it’s happened only the fourth time since Didier Deschamps took over as manager in 2012.

The team had a disappointing performance against Hungary in a 1-1 draw and couldn’t turn Karim Benzema’s brace into a victory against Portugal. Adding to that, Deschamps lost both of his left-backs to injury against the Portuguese and it looks like the French are set to make a big change for the Round of 16 tie.

The players have reportedly told the coaching staff that they would like to play a back-three in the matchup and a 3-4-3 formation was tested out by France during a training session on Saturday.

Things haven’t clicked for the world champions after an impressive opening win over Germany, but a tactical shake-up could get them going again. There’s plenty of room for improvement at both ends of the pitch.

Upfront, Benzema has done well during his comeback to the team and Antoine Griezmann has impressed with his work rate, but Kylian Mbappe has been very quiet so far. The PSG star is one of four outfield players to play every minute for France at the tournament, but he hasn’t been involved in any of the team’s four goals.

A lack of quality in the attack was evident with Switzerland as well early in the competition, but Xherdan Shaqiri put on a show in the last game with two goals and manager Vladimir Petkovic will be hoping that it wasn’t a one-off thing.

Stopping France from scoring is an incredibly difficult task, but Switzerland squeezed out a goalless draw in the matchup during the last Euros. A strong defensive display will set them nicely up for success here, but they will also need to find a winning goal.

Switzerland have been a solid side for years now, but they actually own a pretty poor record at the Euros with only three wins, six draws and seven defeats. Getting a positive result on the board against France would be massive for the team, but they have to work very hard to make it happen.
