The Three Lions have drawn plenty of criticism at the tournament, but they were one of only two sides to not concede a single goal during the group stage and seven points from three outings was a decent haul.

The team has looked very solid at the back with only three shots on target allowed and there were also some encouraging signs offensively in the final group game. Harry Kane was more involved and Bukayo Saka impressed with his direct style of play while Raheem Sterling bagged another goal.

Sterling finished off the season poorly for Manchester City, which has put his future at the club in doubt, so the 26-year-old has plenty to prove at the Euros. The tricky winger had an unproductive start to his England career, but he’s scored 12 goals in 17 appearances for the team since 2019 and looks full of confidence right now.

Germany have struggled against pacy players at the tournament and both Saka and Sterling could end up playing a key role in the big battle.

The Germans put together a great performance in the second group stage outing against Portugal, but they’ve had a poor run overall so far. There was a great opportunity to pick up some confidence in the final group game against Hungary, but they ended up trailing twice and nearly got knocked out of the competition.

With only one victory to show for from the group stage, Germany have now failed to win nine of their 16 outings since international football resumed in September. The run includes only three clean sheets and a leaky defense makes it impossible to win on a consistent basis.

Mats Hummels was brought back into the team for the Euros to fix the defense, but it’s not gone well and it’s quite ironic that it was his own goal that gave Germany a losing start at the tournament.

In attack, Löw has plenty of classy midfielders and skillful wide players, but the team lacks a proper finisher and it puts them in a tight spot for every matchup. Especially against teams like England that give up very few chances in 90 minutes.
