It’s been almost exactly four years since Dortmund’s last Der Klassiker win in the Bundesliga. Marco Reus bagged a pair and Paco Alcacer provided the game-winner in a 3-2 triumph at home on November 10, 2018. Alcacer was once again on target in the 2019 German Super Cup when Dortmund registered a 2-0 win, but it’s been all Bayern since then and even Erling Haaland couldn’t find a way to get Dortmund a Der Klassiker win.

With Haaland now in Manchester, Dortmund’s task looks to be even tougher and the team will also be without Reus on Saturday. No. 1 goalkeeper Gregor Kobel and defensive stalwart Mats Hummels have missed time as well lately but are expected to feature. Having Hummels back against his former side is a massive boost as Dortmund have so far conceded just once in 512 minutes with him on the pitch, but one every 23 minutes without him.

Dortmund also have a 100 percent record with Hummels in the lineup this season with him keeping four clean sheets in six league games. He will definitely have to be at the top of his game for Dortmund to have a chance in the match and avoid losing nine straight to Bayern for the first time ever.

Bayern have question marks hanging over Kingsley Coman, Joshua Kimmich and Thomas Müller. Missing any of the three would be a blow but there’s still plenty of quality at Julian Nagelsmann’s disposal and some confidence should be back in the side again after winning a second consecutive game 5-0 in the Champions League against Viktoria Plzen on Tuesday.

Jamal Musiala had a relatively quiet night against the Czech champions and this should be a worry for Dortmund. The 19-year-old has been in amazing form early in the campaign and already boasts seven goals and six assists across all competitions. On average, Musiala has been involved in a goal every 55 minutes and keeping him off the ball will be a key task for Dortmund players on Saturday.
