Kah On Course for Caulfield Cup History

ウィリアムヒルJamie Kah has a great opportunity to make history on Saturday as she seeks to be the first female jockey to win the Caulfield Cup. She’s on board current favourite Smokin’ Romans who is 3.75 with William Hill.

Taking the ride from Ethan Brown ahead of the tough 1 mile 4 furlong turf Group 1 at the Melbourne track, it will be a tough ask for Kah to do what no female has done since the race’s inception in 1879.

Trainer Ciaron Maher remains confident of success and why not? Heavy conditions at Caulfield this weekend will not phase Smokin’ Romans who triumphed there less than a month ago in a Group 3 on soft ground before taking the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes at Flemington a fortnight ago.

※ Current Odds Date & Time: October 14th, 12:00 P.M. (BST)

Lightly raced for a 6-year-old, this will be only his eighth outing. In the previous seven, he has only once finished outside the first two.

Cricket fans will be drawn to the 9.50 third favourite Benaud, named after the legendary late cricketer and commentator Richie Benaud.

John O’Shea’s 4-year-old is still looking for his first win and could only manage sixth of eight in the Neds Might and Power last week at Caulfield, but – unlike the cricketer – loves the rain! He runs better on softer ground; arguably his best result was second in the Australian Derby in heavy conditions in April.

Separating those two is 8.00 shot Knight’s Order who was fourth behind Smokin’ Romans in the Turnbull Stakes. Jordan Childs was on board that day but this time Timothy Clark is back in the saddle as he was when the 7-year-old won the Chelmsford Stakes last month.

Childs will instead be riding Nonconformist for Grahame Begg. 11.00 with the bookies, the 6-year-old was runner-up in this race last year but in his four Group 1s this year his best result was only seventh last time out, though just 2 ½ lengths behind the winner.

Ethan Brown may not be on the favourite, but on the 12.00 Alegron he still has a chance of landing the £1.6 millon first prize. The gelding beat Benaud and Knight’s Order in the Kingston Town Stakes in September.

Numerian at 12.00 does not have much Group 1 experience but finished second in two Group 2s in the last six weeks while Mark Zahra will be aiming for a repeat of his 2020 success here on 13.00 chance Gold Trip.

It’s 17.00 bar those for the 18-strong contest.
