Action in the Argentinian top-flight continues on Tuesday and we get to see one of the league’s unbeaten teams in action as Platense hosts Central Cordoba.
Platense tend to be involved in low-scoring affairs and Tuesday’s clash is expected to be a tight one as well as bookmaker William Hill has the odds at 1.61 for under 2.5 goals in the game and at 2.75 for under 1.5 goals.
※ Current Odds Date & Time: July 18th, 9:30 A.M. (EST)
Platense are among three teams yet to taste defeat as they have opened the proceedings with three wins and five draws. The team has so far given up just five goals although having scored only nine times, there’s plenty of room for improvement in attack.
The side from Florida, Buenos Aires actually has a lot of potential offensively as there are a couple of well-known forwards on the team in Mauro Zarate and Gonzalo Bergessio. Both have played at the very top level in Europe and they definitely have plenty of know-how to share with their teammates.
Bergessio, who has scored two goals in three games for Argentina, even started out his career at Platense, so it should be very special for him to feature for the team again. The 37-year-old has missed the last few games with an injury and is questionable for Tuesday’s match.
Zarate never made it to the Argentinian team, but he produced a pair of very special strikes during his time at West Ham and he’s looking to break the 150-goal mark in club football this year.
Central Cordoba have kicked off the year with two wins, four draws and four defeats. They started off with a bang in beating Boca Juniors in the second round of fixtures, but it’s been a struggle for the team since then, especially defensively – Cordoba have allowed seven goals in their last three games alone.
The poor run of form cost Sergio Rondina his job as manager and Abel Balbo is set for his debut at the helm on Tuesday. The former striker is back in management after a 10-year absence, but he’ll be expected to deliver results straight away, which isn’t an ideal situation for him.
The two teams go head to head for only the third time in the top division. Platense have yet to lose after winning the first meeting 1-0 and battling back from a two-goal deficit to draw the last clash in August 2021.
