With a purse of US$14 million up for grabs, the odds have never been higher as Rory McIlroy aims to topple Collin Morikawa from his throne. Having worked with Nick Faldo and Darren Clarke among others, McIlroy presents a significant challenge to any golfer out there aiming to be No.1.

Famous for employing the interlocking grip on full shots, it will be interesting to see how Morikawa handles the pressure and will his iron swing technique be enough to secure him his 2nd Open Championship title in a row.

This year’s Open Championship held at St Andrews, Scotland is set to break the attendance record since the Open Championship of 2000 when a staggering number of 239,000 people attended the event. This time round however, the R&A received approximately 1.3 million ticket applications, the largest number since the 2000 Open Championship when Tiger Woods won.

In the words of the R&A Chief Executive Martin Slumbers: “The 150th Open at St. Andrews is going to be a momentous occasion for golf and this is clearly reflected in the extraordinary demand among fans to be part of this historic playing of the Championship. We very much appreciate their passion and enthusiasm for The Open and are delighted that we will set a new attendance record that far exceeds the previous best set in 2000.”

The R&A organisers expect a staggering number of over 50,000 fans per day over the course of the tournament starting July 14th.
