After six frantic weeks of T20 action, the final five of the Big Bash League have been determined. Over the next two weekends, the Perth Scorchers, Sydney Sixers, Melbourne Renegades, Sydney Thunder and Brisbane Heat will battle it out across five exciting finals matches to determine who will be crowned the winner of the 2022-23 Big Bash League.
With both the Perth Scorchers and the Sydney Sixers in hot form, can any of the remaining sides upset their momentum and steal the title? Or will it be between these two teams to see who is the winner of the Big Bash League this year? We break down the format of the Big Bash League finals and preview the best bets to make with bookmaker William Hill.
The Big Bash League employs a unique approach to determining who will play in the Grand Final next Saturday night. Five matches will be played out over this weekend and next:
- Eliminator Final—between the fourth and fifth ranked teams (loser goes home)
- Qualifier Final—between the first and second ranked teams (winner goes straight to Grand Final)
- Knockout Final—between the third placed team and the winner of the Eliminator Final (loser goes home)
- Challenger Final—between the loser of the Qualifier Final and winner of the Knockout Final (loser goes home)
- Grand Final—between the winner of the Qualifier Final and winner of the Challenger Final (winner are the Big Bash League champions)
With this in mind, looking at the outright betting odds, it’s no surprise that the top two teams, the Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers, are heavy favourites to win the Big Bash League. With odds of 2.20 and 2.62, these two sit well ahead of the rest of the pack with the next closest the Melbourne Renegades at 8.00, followed by the Sydney Thunder priced at 17.00 and Brisbane Heat at 19.00.

It’s a bold prediction here, but we see some merit in placing a wager on the fifth ranked Brisbane Heat. They have big odds of 19.00 and have won four of their last five games. Rather than their ranking being a disadvantage, we say it will help them roll into the Grand Final with some strong momentum and confidence against a side that has been sitting growing rust for the past week.
For those who aren’t feeling quite so brazen, the safer bet is with the Sydney Sixers at 2.62. They’re second in the table and odds but head into the post-season having won their latest encounter against their main competition, the Perth Scorchers. Add to this a batting lineup that is firing, having scored 180+ in their last three innings, and a bowling lineup that has taken 28 wickets across the past three matches.
