The HSBC World Sevens Series 2023 is into its fifth event of the season already with four different winners being produced across the first four tournaments so far.
This weekend, rugby sevens will hop across the ditch to Australia for the Sydney Sevens. The best sixteen teams in the world will again compete in three days of jam-packed action to determine another winner. With Argentina denying New Zealand in the dying seconds of the Hamilton Sevens final last weekend, can the Kiwis get revenge this time? Or will Australia rekindle the form that saw them win the first event of the season?
Bookmaker William Hill has all the betting odds as we look at the best bets to make on this event.

Looking at the betting odds for the Sydney Sevens from bookmaker William Hill, things have tightened up slightly from how they were this time last week heading into the Hamilton Sevens. After making the final and only just falling short, New Zealand heads into this tournament as the favourites still with odds of 3.75. Behind them is Fiji at 4.50, who have uncharacteristically not made the semifinals in their past three events. Rounding out the top five is Australia, South Africa and Argentina at 6.00 to 6.50, who have all won one event each this season so far.
We say it’s going to be fifth time lucky for New Zealand here. It’s a World Cup year, and the Kiwis have been there or thereabouts the past three events, coming third or second. They’ll be stinging after a disappointing loss in front of their home crowd last week, and with plenty of All Black Sevens fans in the stands in Sydney too, the smart money is on New Zealand to win this one at 3.75.
Another excellent betting market outside of the outright winner odds is to bet on who will top which pool. Here, great bets are on Australia to top Pool A and USA to top Pool C. Australia is in a pool alongside Canada, Great Britain and last weekend’s winners Argentina. Canada and Great Britain should be straightforward wins, while we back the Aussies to upset Argentina who will still be coming down off the high of last weekend’s win.
USA, on the other hand, has topped their pool three out of four times this season and are in a tight draw alongside Ireland, Samoa and Spain. Expect them to come out on top here either winning all of their games or dropping one but still topping the pool given how close the games may be. With odds of 2.37, this bet is an excellent wager.
