Six Nations Championship 2023 Round Five | Can France Snatch the Title From Ireland?

Six Nations Round Five

It all comes down to this. After six weeks of fantastic Six Nations action, two teams are left in the running for the Six Nations 2023 title. Can France pull off one of the biggest ever Six Nations heists and snaffle the trophy from Ireland’s grasp or will the streets of Dublin be flooded with Guinness on Saturday night? There’s something to play for in all of this weekend’s Super Saturday fixtures as Italy will also be seeking an upset over Scotland to gain something from their impressive yet win-less 2023 campaign.

Looking at the outright winner odds for the three matches this weekend, it seems quite cut and dry. Scotland is expected to dispatch Italy with little trouble, France should put Wales to the sword and Ireland is the heavy favourite against England.

However, it’s never quite this simple in Six Nations rugby. In the first match, Italy will be desperately battling to claim one victory and avoid the wooden spoon this season as a reward for their hard work. Against a disappointed Scottish side who saw their title hopes extinguished last round, could they cause an upset?

Following this, France will know that simply defeating Wales is not enough. Behind Ireland on the points table by four points and 20 points differential, France will be seeking another significant margin of victory. Will this open up opportunities for Wales or will we see another cricket score by France for the second weekend in a row?

If France is successful, it would force Ireland to need a victory over England. Against an English side who has been written off, has nothing to lose and in front of an expectant home side who will be baying for Ireland’s first ever Dublin Grand Slam to be sealed, will the men in green crack under pressure?

Bottom line, we say Dublin will be getting drunk dry on Saturday night as Ireland achieves the Grand Slam to win the Six Nations 2023. However, there will still be plenty of drama—Scotland and Italy could be a tight one, France vs. Wales should deliver plenty of tries and Ireland vs. England could well go down to the final minute.

From a betting perspective, the best odds this weekend are to wager on Italy at a +15 handicap. The Azzurri have been solid all season, coming within five points of World No. 2 France and 14 points of World No. 1 Ireland. They should give Scotland a run for their money and with a return of 1.91, this is an excellent bet to take.
