The Bundesliga title race continues on Friday with the clash between Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig. Only four points separate the teams and a great spectacle is expected at the Signal Iduna Park.
Dortmund is the only side in the top European leagues with a winning record across all competitions in 2023. Will they maintain it against the Red Bulls? Bookmaker 10bet has the odds at 2.30 for a home win. The odds are at 3.00 for Leipzig’s victory and at 3.70 for the first draw in the match-up since 2019.
※ Current Odds Date & Time: March 2nd, 9:30 A.M. (EST)
Dortmund started their streak with a breathtaking 4-3 win over Augsburg and it consists of seven Bundesliga victories, one win in the German Cup and a 1-0 triumph over Chelsea in the Champions League. The run began after Dortmund had entered the World Cup break with back-to-back losses so it’s been a very impressive turnaround from the team.
The winning form has also sent Dortmund back into the title race. Ahead of the 23rd round of action, Edin Terzic’s men are sharing the top spot with Bayern Munich, having picked up 46 points from 22 games.
Dortmund have already suffered six losses, but they have 15 wins compared to Bayern’s 12 and an 11th consecutive Bundesliga title is far from a certainty for the men from Munich.
Leipzig are just outside the top three and also have big ambitions for the rest of the season, particularly with Christopher Nkunku back healthy again.
Nkunku has been the best player in Germany this season, recording 12 goals and three assists in 17 Bundesliga appearances. if he hadn’t missed the start of 2023 with torn knee ligaments, we might even be talking about Leipzig being Bayern’s closest challengers.
The French international has led the goal-scoring charts for most of the season in the Bundesliga, and he’s also a very creative player who can wreak havoc against any opposition. Friday should mark his first start since recovering from injury.
Bizarrely, Nkunku didn’t register any goal involvements when Leipzig dominated the first meeting of the season against Dortmund with a 3-0 victory. It was the third straight win for the Red Bulls in the head-to-head meetings. Prior to that, Dortmund had won four in a row, including the German Cup final in 2021 4-1. The gap in quality between the two sides seemed very large back then, but Leipzig have recovered and should be very motivated Friday by the chance to record a second consecutive league double over Dortmund.
