It’s no surprise that with the pre-tournament withdrawal of Ronnie O’Sullivan and Neil Robertson, the outright betting odds have shifted significantly at the 2023 Championship League snooker. Now, Judd Trump is the strong favourite to win at 6.50, well ahead of the rest of the pack.
Trailing Trump are Kyren Wilson and Mark Williams on 8.00 followed closely by Shaun Murphy on 9.00. New to the top five betting odds thanks to strong performances in Stage One, Noppon Saengkham and Si Jiahui both pay 15.00 for a win in Morningside over the weekend.
In terms of the best bets to make heading into Stage Two of the 2023 Championship League, we say now is the time to back Judd Trump. The 33-year-old is an enormous benefactor from the withdrawals of O’Sullivan and Robertson and it feels as though the silverware is now his to lose. So far, he’s done everything right by moving through Stage One relatively unphased with a 3-0 win over Reanne Evans followed by another 3-0 win over Jimmy White before drawing 2-2 with Xu Si.
Trump’s biggest rival will be Kyren Wilson, who will also sniff opportunity in the air thanks to the thin field. While Wilson is no mug with five ranking event wins under his belt, Trump should have too much for the youngster should they meet in the later stages of this tournament.
Outside of betting on an outright winner, we see a lot of value in making a wager on the winner of Group H. Si Jiahui and Pang Junxu are the two favourites to win and while it may feel like something of a toss up, we say the bookies’ second favourite, Jiahui, is an excellent bet. The 21-year-old powered his way to the semi-finals of the World Championships in his ranking event debut and has proven that his prodigy label is no mistake. Back Jiahui to win the group at 3.25.
