The Blueshirts are heading to Edmonton with revenge on their minds after the Oilers triumphed 4-3 in the first meeting of the season. Gerard Gallant’s men looked to have been cruising toward the victory at the Madison Square Garden when they came out for the third period holding a 3-0 lead, but the Oilers suddenly kicked into gear and won the game.
Connor McDavid had a rare quiet night against the Rangers back in November posting only one assist but don’t expect that to be the case Friday night. The Edmonton captain has tallied a whopping 50 points in 28 home games and should be fueled by the chance to hit 100 points for the campaign. He has totaled 42 points and 57 assists in 55 games, which keeps him on pace to become the sixth player in NHL history to have 150 points in a single season.
The Oilers have been full of goals all season long and have become the first team since the 1991-92 Pittsburgh Penguins to boast four 25-goal scorers through the team’s first 55 games of a season. With McDavid leading the charge, they can be confident of outscoring anyone they are facing, although it might not be very easy on Friday.
Sitting on a 3.37 goals-for average, the Rangers have also done very well offensively throughout the season and they have just received some extra help with Vladimir Tarasenko joining the gang from St. Louis.
The Russian sniper scored in his Rangers debut and has immediately found chemistry on the top line with his good buddy Artemi Panarin and Mika Zibanejad. Panarin has racked up eight points across the last two games and Zibanejad will enter Friday’s action with a five-game goal streak.
Can the hot trio now help the team to improve its poor head-to-head record in the series? The Rangers have won only one of their last seven games against Edmonton.
