All four of City’s last home defeats in the league have come against sides from London but they have an incredible record against Arsenal. The Gunners have lost 11 straight head-to-head meetings in the league, which marks their worst-ever losing streak against a single opposition in the English top flight.
Things have turned really ugly for Arsenal since Pep Guardiola arrived in Manchester as City have won all six home league games with the Spaniard in charge, scoring 17 goals to Arsenal’s three. Can they now stop a City side that has Erling Haaland at its disposal?
City’s star forward has netted 11 goals in his last four home Premier League outings alone. He has already equaled the goals record for a 38-game campaign in the league and will now be chasing the all-time top mark. Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer currently share the record with 34 goals, but Haaland is right behind them with 32 tallies.
Arsenal has Gabriel Martinelli in top form. The team couldn’t beat bottom side Southampton last time out, but Martinelli had a special outing, scoring his 15th goal of the campaign to tie a single-season Premier League record among Brazilian players. He has registered a very impressive 11 goal involvements in his last 10 league outings, scoring eight times and delivering three assists.
With Martinelli on fire, Arsenal should be able to threaten City but the current state of things could make them very careful in the match. A draw wouldn’t be a bad result for Mikel Arteta’s men. It would still leave City behind them, and whilst Guardiola’s side can leapfrog Arsenal by winning its two games in hand, they still have to go out and secure the victories. Winning week to week has become increasingly difficult in the Premier League and there could still be a slip or two to come from City before the season ends.
