One of the complaints of players on the WTA Tour in recent years has been how jam-packed the calendar is, leaving little time for rest and relaxation across 11 months of the year. Never has this point been more pertinent than this week, with a WTA 500 event kicking off in the form of the Cymbiotika San Diego Open a little over 24 hours after Coco Gauff has hoisted the US Open trophy.
Nevertheless, there are a host of players who exited the US Open earlier than they would have hoped and who stayed in the United States in an effort to redeem their American summer. With the likes of Ons Jabeur, Maria Sakkari and Caroline Garcia headlining this event, as well as the mercurial Jelena Ostapenko, there’s plenty of great tennis action and betting to be had.
We break down all the latest Cymbiotika San Diego Open odds and outline the best bets to make ahead of this week’s action.

Not only is Tunisian Ons Jabeur the No. 1 seed here in San Diego, but she’s also a heavy favourite in the betting odds. At 5.00, her odds are half of Maria Sakkari’s, who comes in at 10.00 off the back of yet another disappointing Grand Slam. Behind these two there’s a three-way race for third in the betting odds, with Belinda Bencic, Jelena Ostapenko and Barbora Krejcikova all on 11.00, ahead of Caroline Garcia who sits at 12.00.
In terms of the best bets to make on the San Diego Open this week, we see two potential paths to go down. Back Ons Jabeur to win, which is the most likely outcome; or, wager on a dark horse and chase those higher returns.
The argument in Jabeur’s favour is simple. She’s the highest rank, most consistent, and most in-form player in this draw. The Tunisian just made the round of 16 at the US Open, and while she would have wanted to go deeper, she did better than the majority of the women in this draw. Prior to that, she made the quarter-finals in Cincinnati (losing to Aryna Sabalenka) and the final at Wimbledon (losing to Marketa Vondrousova). She’s seeing the ball well, making good results week in, week out, and is the best bet to win here at 5.00.
However, those looking to take a punt on a dark horse might want to consider Sloane Stephens. The American is paying a high 21.00 to win the tournament and has shown glimmers that the kind of form that once took her to world No. 3 might be just around the corner. She lost a tough first round three-setter against Beatriz Haddad-Maia in New York, before which she made the quarters in Cleveland and consecutive WTA 1000 round of 16s across Montreal and Cincinnati. Should it all click for her this week, there’s a healthy pay out on the line.
