After a furious few months of competition between Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, it’s time for something a little different in golf this week. Rather than heading out onto the green and competing as individuals, the next four days in New Orleans will see some of golf’s best pair up for one of the most exciting golf doubles tournaments in the calendar.
The Zurich Classic of New Orleans 2023 will boast a field of 80 pairs, with partnerships based on priority rankings and PGA Tour membership. From here, the top 33 teams will make the cut with fourball being played in the first and third rounds and alternate shot in the second and fourth. Having come here and won this time last year, can Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele go back to back in 2023?
Bookmaker William Hill has all the latest odds as we seek to answer this question and break down the best bets to make on the Zurich Classic of New Orleans 2023.
※ Current Odds Date & Time: April 20th, 3:00 A.M. (GMT)
One pair stands out head and shoulders above the rest of the pack in this year’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans and that’s the defending champions. Cantlay and Schauffele are paying a low 4.00 to win the tournament outright with the next closes pair more than double that in Colin Morikawa and Max Homa at 8.50. Behind these two, it’s a tight race as Im/Mitchell, Horschel/Burns and Kim/Kim all sit between 13.00 and 15.00 in William Hill’s outright betting odds.
Top five finishing odds are similar to the outright winner odds but see the gap closed between the rest of the field and Cantlay/Schauffele. While the defending champions are paying 1.73, Morikawa/Homa are right behind on 2.75 followed by the remaining three favourites in the outright odds, who are between 3.50 and 3.80 to finish in the top five.
Considering current form and what happened last year, it’s tough to go past Cantlay/Schauffele for the win here again. Patrick Cantlay has five top 20 finishes in a row in his last five events, while Xander Schauffele has back to back top 10 finishes. Last year, this pedigree was clear when they broke the course record shooting 29 under par. Add to this the fact that they’re a top five in the world pairing—Cantlay is No. 4, while Schauffele is No. 5—and there are only two other top 10 players competing in the tournament, and it starts to look like a reasonably clear cut win for the pair.
Despite being a very strong team, the outright odds for Cantlay/Schauffele still offer a four to one pay out, making this by far the best bet to take ahead of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans 2023.
