PGA Tour: The Rocket Mortgage Classic 2023 | Finau Looks to Defend Title in Detroit

PGA Tour: The Rocket Mortgage Classic 2023

PGA Tour golf heads to Detroit this week where Tony Finau will look to defend the title he won at the Rocket Mortgage Classic this time last year. In only the fifth edition of this tournament, many of golf’s biggest names are opting to take the week off, with just one top 10 player and only eight of the top 30 in contention at the Detroit Golf Club.

A thinner field means a perfect opportunity for Finau to reclaim some momentum this season, but it also presents a chance for some of the other form players this year to gain reward. The likes of Max Homa, Collin Morikawa and Rickie Fowler will all be eager to pop champagne come Sunday evening, making for an excellent four days of golfing action.

ウィリアムヒルWe break down all the latest odds from bookmaker William Hill ahead of the first tee and offer a look at the best bets to make on the Rocket Mortgage Classic 2023.

Looking at the outright betting odds heading into this tournament, we can see that bookmaker William Hill has defending champion Tony Finau and consistent performer Rickie Fowler as joint-favourites. The two Americans both sit on 13.00, ahead of third favourite Collin Morikawa on 15.00. Rounding out the top five in the betting odds are Justin Thomas and Hideki Matsuyama who are both paying 17.00 for a win at the Rocket Mortgage Classic 2023.

While the field may be missing some of the star-power that we’re used to seeing on the PGA Tour, if anything this makes for better betting. A handful of players are in with a real chance of lifting the trophy here in Detroit, meaning excellent odds for those that bet correctly.

There are two clear players we’d suggest wagering on this week. The first is Tony Finau, the defending champion. Finau has two titles already this year and while his form has been underwhelming since winning the Mexican Open, returning to a course where he’s won previously might just be what the doctor ordered for the 33-year-old. Expect a deep run here with the best bet being a top five finish for Finau at 4.50.

The reason we aren’t backing Finau for the win in Detroit is because Rickie Fowler has been showing all the signs of a player on the verge of a breakthrough. The 34-year-old has made the top 15 in eight of his past nine events, including a top five placement at the recent US Open. Fowler may not have picked up a title since 2019 but more silverware feels like an inevitability given the caliber of golf the American is playing this season.
