RBC Canadian Open 2023: Rory McIlroy Looks to Get Season Back on Track

RBC Canadian Open 2023

The PGA Tour heads north to Canada this week for the RBC Canadian Open 2023. With the majority of the top names in golf taking the week off, only two of the world’s top 10 will be on show at the Oakdale Country Club over the coming days. This presents an excellent chance for world No. 3 Rory McIlroy to get another title under his belt and gain some much-needed momentum ahead of the US Open in a few weeks’ time.

ウィリアムヒルWith McIlroy the highest ranked player in this week’s event, can the Northern Irishman run away with the trophy? Or will one of the other top 50 players such as Cameron Young or Shane Lowry step up and make a deep run here? We break down all the best bets to make on the RBC Canadian Open 2023 with the latest odds from bookmaker William Hill.

Looking at the outright winner odds from bookmaker William Hill, Rory McIlroy is a heavy favourite to win here. Next in the betting favourites is Matt Fitzpatrick at 13.00 followed by both Sam Burns and Cameron Young tied on 15.00. This really is a prime opportunity for Rory McIlroy to bag an easy title ahead of the US Open. With only one other top 10 player in the field, McIlroy is a cut above all of his opponents here. In terms of recent form, McIlroy has been so-so. After winning the CJ Cup in South Carolina in October 2022 and coming runner-up at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March 2023, McIlroy experienced something of a slump. Back-to-back failures to make the cut at the PLAYERS Championship and the Masters Tournament were followed by a T47 finish at the Wells Fargo Championship.

Since then, however, McIlroy has recorded two top 10 finishes with duel T7 placements at the PGA Championship and the Memorial Tournament. This feels like exactly the platform that McIlroy needs to launch off to win here in Ontario. As the two-time defending champion, Oakdale in a course he knows well and is nicely set up to succeed.

While a McIlroy victory is looking like the best bet here, back Canadian Adam Hadwin to make another deep run is also an excellent bet. The 35-year-old has been playing this tournament for well over a decade and has made several strong runs in the past. While he’s not exactly out there winning events on a weekly basis, Hadwin has also not had a shocking season. The Canadian has a runner-up finish in New Orleans and top 10 placements at the Shriners Children’s Open, Cadence Bank Houston Open and WM Phoenix Open across the past seven months.

With odds of 10.00 for Hadwin to finish in the top five, we recommend backing the local favourite to yet again punch above his weight on home soil.
