Sentry Tournament of Champions Betting Preview | Who Will Win Golf’s First Event of 2023?

The golf season is back for 2023 with the first significant event of the year in the Sentry Tournament of Champions. All eyes will be on Maui in Hawaii for the next four days as the best of the best in golf turn up to contest one of the PGA Tour’s most coveted prizes.

In a tournament that has been running since 1953, this par 73 course at the Kapalua Resort sees only players who won an event or qualified for the Tour Championship in 2022 invited. With 39 high calibre contestants, the field is looking as competitive as ever in 2023 and will ensure that golf gets off to a fast start for the year.

ウィリアムヒルWe look at the best bets to make on the Sentry Tournament of Champions 2023,and preview the betting odds with bookmaker William Hill.

Current Odds Date & Time: January 5th, 10:45 A.M. (GMT)

Looking at the overall winner odds from William Hill, we can see that there are a handful of competitors that have a strong chance of winning this tournament.

Jon Rahm leads the field with odds of 7.00 and is the reasonable favourite, holding a lead over the second favourite Scottie Scheffler who sits on 9.50. Behind these two, three men are tied on odds of 11.00 with Xander Schauffele, Patrick Cantlay and Justin Thomas third-equal in the odds before they begin to drop off.

Last year’s winner, Cameron Smith, is not present in the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions. After setting a tournament record of -34 last year and beating Jon Rahm by one stroke, Smith has now left the PGA and is with LIV Golf instead meaning he’s unable to participate in the Sentry Tournament of Champions.

As well as Cameron Smith, World No. 1 Rory McIlroy will also not be participating in the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions. While McIlroy has never won the tournament, he would have posed a significant threat in the field.

As a result, Jon Rahm is looking well positioned to go one better than his result last year and claim his first win here in Maui. The Spaniard also came runner-up in 2018, so will be motivated to break through in 2023. He will face good competition from two-time winner Justin Thomas and 2019 champion Xander Schauffele but with odds of 7.00, he is the best bet to take here heading into this week’s golf.

Tune in this Thursday for the first tee-off of the Sentry Tournament of Champions, which will take place from January 5th to 8th 2023.
