PGA Tour: Butterfield Bermuda Championship 2023 | What Role Will the Weather Play in Southampton?

Butterfield Bermuda Championship 2023

The 2022-23 PGA Tour season is winding to a close, with just two more events remaining before players take a break over Christmas. One of these is taking place this week in Bermuda, with the Butterfield Bermuda Championship being contested in Southampton from November 9-12. Despite not being a PGA Tour signature event, there are plenty of quality golfers jostling for position ahead of the 2024 season, so expect some great golf this weekend.

Adam Scott heads to Bermuda as the biggest name in the field, but can he follow through on the weight of expectation? With weather having played a role in this event’s four previous editions, and players competing on one of the shortest courses on the PGA Tour, there’s every chance we’ll see the bookies odds upset here.

bet365We break down the numbers from bookmaker bet365 and outline the best bets to make on the Butterfield Bermuda Championship 2023 ahead of the first tee this Thursday.

Looking at the outright betting odds, bookmaker bet365 has Adam Scott as its betting favourite with odds of 17.00 for the Australian to win this weekend. Behind Scott, Alex Noren, Brendon Todd and Akshay Bhatia are all level on 19.00, ahead of Lucas Glover, Thomas Detry and Alex Smalley joint on 21.00, indicating just how competitive this field will be in 2023.

A huge factor in the past at this event has been the weather, with interruptions due to wind and rain across each of the previous four editions. Typically, such conditions are a leveller, explaining why we see seven men all paying similar odds at the top of the field here.

Butterfield Bermuda Championship 2023

While Adam Scott is a conservative bet, with the 43-year-old representing four top 10 finishes this season, including a T7 most recently at the Wyndham Championship, our recommendation is to back second favourite Brendon Todd instead. The American has been very active in 2022-23, claiming seven top 10 finishes, of which two were runner up performances. Notably, Todd is one of the straightest hitters on the PGA Tour, an attribute that will favour the 38-year-old on a short course such as the Port Royal Golf Course.

Todd’s odds are slightly higher this week thanks to his mercurial form. Countering the golfers seven top 10 finishes, he’s also had seven missed cuts. However, across his past seven events, the American has made the cut every time and bagged three top 10 finishes. Most recently, he placed sixth at the Fortinet Championship, indicating he’s shaken off some of the poor form that plagued him earlier in the season. With odds of 19.00 to win in Bermuda, Todd is our best bet this week.
