It’s the calm before the storm on the PGA Tour 2023. Next week, the oldest and arguably most prestigious golf tournament in the world commences, with The Open Championship taking place. This week, players get one last shot at playing themselves into form at the John Deere Classic 2023.
With the proximity of these two events in the calendar, and lack thereof geographically, many of the big names in golf have opted to sit out this event. However, despite the absence of top ranked players, there is still plenty of excellent betting to be had this week. Can J.T. Poston defend his title? Will Cameron Young make the most of being the big fish this week?
We break down the answers to these questions and more by looking at the latest odds from bookmaker William Hill and suggesting the best bets to make on the John Deere Classic 2023.
※ Current Odds Date & Time: July 6th, 10:30 A.M. (GMT)
Bookmaker William Hill has the top three favourites in the betting odds all neck and neck heading into the John Deere Classic this week. Russell Henley and Denny McCarthy are level on 15.00 as joint favourites, while world No. 19 Cameron Young is just behind on 17.00. Following these three favourites the odds drop off substantially, with fourth favourite Ludvig Aberg paying 23.00, before a four-way tie for fifth sees Adam Schenk, Stephen Jaeger, Adam Hadwin and Emiliano Grillo all paying 29.00.
Last week saw Canada’s Adam Hadwin come devastating close to winning the Rocket Mortgage Classic 2023. The 35-year-old claimed his second runner-up placement of the season, losing to Rickie Fowler in a playoff alongside Collin Morikawa as well, after all three finished on -24. With Hadwin recording seven top 15 finishes so far this season, the veteran is well placed to make a deep run here in Illinois. Whether or not he can win is another question, but we suggest at least wagering on another top five finish for Hadwin.
In terms of the best bet for an outright winner, we say Cameron Young is the way to go at the John Deere Classic 2023. The American is the only top 20 player in the field, and is well overdue for a result in 2023. Since finishing T7 at the Masters Tournament in April, Young has been on a poor run, with his best result a T32 placement. However, he’s a much better player than this and it’s just a matter of time until he rekindles the kind of form that has seen him twice make deep runs in majors. With an open field and little attention on this tournament, expect Young to come right and lift the trophy at the John Deere Classic 2023 for a payout of 17.00.
