Poor away form is one of the main reasons why Boca hasn’t been able to hit the same heights as last year, with the team having so far managed to win just three road games. Things have gone particularly badly in recent times as Jorge Almiron’s men head to Santa Fe with a run of three defeats in their last four away games.

And Almiron’s team will likely have to work very hard to get a positive result on Thursday. Union is positioned third from the bottom, but the team has greatly improved its results in recent weeks and the home results have been very impressive – there’s only been one loss at the Estadio 15 de Abril for Union in its last five outings.

Overall, Union managed to string together a six-game run without a defeat before the streak was ended by a narrow 1-0 loss versus Atletico Tucuman last weekend. Newly appointed manager Kily Gonzalez will hope to see the team bounce back quickly from the defeat on Thursday.

Gonzalez has inherited a team that has scored just 17 times through 22 games. The attacking record clearly needs a big improvement if the team wants to get closer to a mid-table position. Imanol Machuca is the top scorer with four goals and no other player has totaled more than two.

With Boca having conceded 13 goals in 10 away games, Thursday appears to offer Union a good opportunity to improve its scoring numbers. The clash has previously suited well for Union as the team has scored in three consecutive head-to-head meetings, winning two of the matches.

The visitors will look for Miguel Merentiel to produce a match-winning moment. While many Boca players have struggled to perform at their best in 2023, the Uruguayan forward has enjoyed his loan spell from Palmeiras, notching six goals and delivering two assists. Four of Merentiel’s goals have come in his last six league appearances, meaning he is one of the most in-form players in the league at the moment.
