Pochettino built himself a big reputation at Tottenham and he was a highly coveted manager, but the Argentinian has had a struggling start in France ever since drawing his first game in charge with Saint-Etienne 2-2.
The former PSG defender has already suffered three league losses in Paris, which puts his side in a tough spot. The team has taken seven losses in the current league campaign and it’s been close to 20 years since the last time a team with so many defeats at this stage of a season managed to win the Ligue 1 title. Lyon did it 2002-03 and they had eight losses in the end.
PSG’s win in the Champions League Round of 16 over Barcelona was an impressive feat, but struggling to match sides like Nantes and Lorient begs plenty of questions regarding Pochettino’s ability.
The Parisians have been completely dominant in France since 2013, winning seven of eight league titles. However not taking home the Ligue 1 crown would a massive failure for a club, which has spent over a billion dollars on players in the last 10 years.
The team faces a pair of key games in the next couple of rounds as a home match against Lille follows their trip to the Groupama Stadium.
Lyon will enter Sunday’s contest with only three league defeats. Rudi Garcia’s side has overcome a very poor start to the season by winning 16 of their last 23 Ligue 1 outings. Breaking down teams has been a bit tricky for them lately with two draws in three games, but a productive offense always gives Lyon a chance to win.
Metz, Bordeaux, and Nimes are the only sides who have kept Garcia’s men off the scoreboard this season and Les Gones already have three players with 10-plus goals.
Neymar looks set to make his return from an adductor problem. He has to lead his side to a rare road victory against Lyon,as PSG has managed just three league away wins in the matchup since 2005.
