Atletico produced almost a perfect performance in the first game a week ago, gabbing an early lead and only conceding late on. The Sebastien Haller strike has given Dortmund hope of getting back to the Champions League semi-finals for the first time since 2013. Atletico was among the best four sides in Europe last time in 2017.

Dortmund certainly needs to get off to a better start at the Westfalenstadion to turn the tables on Tuesday. Rodrigo De Paul needed only four minutes of action to give Atletico the lead in Madrid, and Diego Simeone’s men are extremely tough to play against when they have something to hang on to.

A top-class defensive performance is also a must. Atletico has just joined Manchester City as the only other side in the top five European leagues with multiple 20-goal scorers this season. Antoine Griezmann bagged a brace in Saturday’s 3-1 triumph over Girona to reach 21 goals across all competitions, and Alvaro Morata is sitting on 20 markers.

Dortmund is also a prolific side but no player has even reached the 15-goal mark. Donyell Malen and Niclas Füllkrug lead the way with 13 and 12 goals, respectively. The latter has added 10 assists during an impressive debut campaign with Dortmund and looks set to rejoin the starting lineup after being replaced by Haller in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Mönchengladbach.

Füllkrug didn’t see a single minute of action despite Haller getting hurt early at the weekend and should be fully fresh for Tuesday’s crucial clash, while the team is also expected to get back Jadon Sancho. The talented winger missed the weekend’s action due to an illness.

Edin Terzic’s side will hope to take advantage of Altetico’s incredibly poor away form. The team has won only seven road contests all season, losing five of the last seven. Atletico’s last trip to Dortmund also brings back only negative memories. During the 2018-19 Champions League group stage, Borussia received three goals from the bench as Simeone’s team was crushed 4-0. It’s one of 15 losses Atleti has suffered in 24 away games played against German clubs.
