Inter has been perfect with its play in 2024 so far, winning all 10 outings. Simone Inzaghi’s men have scored 26 times during the run while conceding only four goals as Inter has become the favorite to take the Serie A crown and one of the teams to beat in the Champions League.
Even injuries can’t seem to slow down Inter, as the Nerazzurri crushed Lecce 4-0 away from home on Sunday despite losing Marcus Thuram to a muscle strain in last week’s Champions League outing versus Atletico Madrid.
Thuram has found great chemistry with Lautaro Martinez in the Inter attack, but the Argentine ace didn’t seem to miss his partner in crime at the weekend. Martinez bagged half of Inter’s goals in the big win, becoming only the fifth player in the last 65 years to register three consecutive Serie A seasons with over 20 goals.
Martinez is dominating at the top of the Serie A scoring list with 22 strikes through 23 appearances, and he’s set to be a headache even for a top defensive unit like Atalanta.
The side from Bergamo has produced four clean sheets in the last eight league games, conceding 24 goals overall across the season. Gian Piero Gasperini has always been known as an extremely offensive-minded coach, but he’s found a great balance between the attack and defense in 2023-24.
Similarly to Inter, Atalanta has also avoided defeat throughout 2024, winning seven games and playing out two draws. The team will be back at San Siro after splitting the points with AC Milan at the weekend.
Teun Koopmeiners scored Atalanta’s lone goal in a 1-1 draw against the Rossoneri and will be a man to watch again on Wednesday night. The 25-year-old Dutch midfielder leads Atalanta with eight Serie A goals and finds himself in a very impressive group – Phil Foden, Jude Bellingham, and Vincenzo Grifo are the only other midfielders in the top five European leagues to have scored 10-plus goals in all competitions in each of the last two seasons.
