Edmonton started the streak on Dec. 21 with a 6-3 victory over New Jersey and has crushed the opposition during the run, scoring 62 times and allowing only 24 goals. It’s been a complete turnaround compared to the start of the season, when the team struggled at both ends of the ice, and even McDavid looked a shadow of his former self.

The Oilers’ rise under new head coach Kris Knoblauch also includes one victory against the Golden Knights. McDavid racked up a goal and two assists as Edmonton beat Vegas 5-4 in a shootout on home ice on Nov. 28. The result is one of a whopping 24 wins Knoblauch’s men have recorded over their last 27 outings.

Vegas cruised to the Stanley Cup win in 2023, beating Edmonton 4-2 in the process, but the recent regular-season meetings haven’t suited the Golden Knights. A 4-3 overtime victory at Rogers Place last March marks Vegas’ lone success in the past five head-to-head clashes with Edmonton during the regular season.

McDavid tends to crush it in most match-ups, and meetings with the Golden Knights haven’t been any different. He’s tallied nine goals and 27 points in 19 career regular-season games against Vegas. The Oilers captain could have something special in store for Tuesday again after showing off fantastic from throughout January with a 19-point effort across 11 games.

The Golden Knights have also been on a good run lately, posting five wins in seven games before the All-Star break. The team has been forced to battle a lot of adversity but remains in contention for one of the top seeds in the Western Conference despite playing a prolonged period without two of its best forwards.

Jack Eichel remains out on Tuesday, but William Karlsson is expected to rejoin the gang. He hasn’t played since the 2024 NHL Winter Classic against Seattle on Jan. 1. Karlsson is one of five Vegas skaters with at least 30 points for the season and should give the team a nice boost in the attack against a side that’s given up only three goals across its last four contests.
