The core of MacKinnon, Landeskog, Rantanen and Makar is still intact. They were also able to re-sign key depth players such as Lekhonen and Nichushkin.

Losing Nazem Kadri in the off-season might affect them at the start of the new campaign, but they will quickly figure out how to score lots of goals. Despite missing MacKinnon for some time last season, only the Leafs and the Panthers scored more goals than this team, so they should be fine.
The Toronto Maple Leafs open the season as the favorite in the Eastern Conference and in the Atlantic Division with their odds to claim the cup at +850. The reigning Maurice Richard trophy winner, Auston Matthews, will look to lead the Leafs into a deep playoff run, which is something they haven’t been able to accomplish in the last couple of years. Still, they have a talented offense led by Matthews and Mitch Marner. They signed goaltender Ilya Samsonov from the Capitals as well as Matt Murray to try and resolve their inconsistency in front of the net.

Staying in the Atlantic division, the Florida Panthers (+1100) are still in the mix for a championship. They made headlines in the off-season by trading away Jonathan Huberdeau, their highest point scorer last season, and Mackenzie Weegar to the Calgary Flames. In return, they received Matthew Tkachuk, another 100+ points scorer last season.
They still have a strong goaltender tandem in Spencer Knight and Sergei Bobrovsky. Their defense is still led by Aaron Ekblad, a perennial Norris candidate. They might take some time to find their rhythm at the beginning of the season, but the Panthers are still one of the most complete rosters in the NHL.
If you have Connor McDavid in your team, you will be one of the favorites to win the Stanley Cup. The Edmonton Oilers open at +1200, the fourth highest odds to begin the season. This also makes them the favorite to win the Pacific Division. They reached the Western Conference finals last year, but lost to the favorites, the Avalanche. The big question with the Oilers in the past couple years has been the goaltender.

They addressed this issue by signing Jack Campbell in the off-season. We know the duo of Draisaitl and McDavid will still lead the offense. It’s time for the Oilers to take the next step and win the Stanley Cup.
The team with the fifth highest odds to win the Stanley Cup is the Tampa Bay Lightning at +1200. They were able to retain their core of Kucherov, Stamkos, Hedman, and Vasilevsky who were all an integral part of their three consecutive trips to the finals. They should once again be very competitive this year. They have one of the most balanced rosters in the NHL and know what it takes to make a deep playoff run. The only concern with this team is the accumulated fatigue that comes from playing in the finals for three consecutive years.
