Manchester City Hopes to Achieve a Rare Feat at Anfield

A week after losing to Arsenal, Liverpool face another big game on Sunday as they host Manchester City. City have a miserable record away to Liverpool, but they do get a chance to post their first three-game unbeaten run at Anfield in 30 years.

10Bet LogoA high-scoring game is expected and bookmaker 10bet has the odds at over 1.5 first-half goals at 2.13. The odds for under 1.5 goals in the first 45 minutes are at 1.66.

Pep Guardiola’s men took down the Reds 4-1 at their place in 2021-22 and they showed great character to come from behind twice to draw 2-2 at Anfield last season. The win in February 2021 marks one of only two away victories City have achieved in this fixture in the Premier League.

There’s always a special aura around the place at Anfield, which has helped Liverpool to dominate at home, but even the results at their own barn have been inconsistent during their up-and-down 2022-23 season. Brighton managed to battle out a 3-3 draw against Liverpool in their last home outing in the league and Crystal Palace have also been able to sneak a draw against them.

Liverpool’s poor form has resulted in the club’s worst start to a Premier League season since 2012-13 when the side eventually finished seventh in Brendan Rodgers’ debut campaign. They will have had their worst run since 1953 if Liverpool end up conceding three goals again on Sunday.

Jürgen Klopp will be desperate for a spark and he will be hoping that Mohamed Salah’s midweek performance in Europe was a sign of things to come. The Egyptian has been a bit quiet in 2022-23, but he scored the fastest-ever hat trick in the Champions League against the Rangers and the three-time Premier League Golden Boot winner will now try to avoid matching his longest goal drought in the English top-flight. Salah hasn’t scored in the league since August, going five games without a goal.

While Liverpool are struggling, Man City continue to put up incredible numbers. They are on a club-record 22-game run without an away defeat in the league and their only loss in 37 Premier League outings came in February against Tottenham.

Things have been so rosy for Guardiola that he even rested Erling Haaland in the Champions League on Tuesday and the team still sealed qualification into the next round without him.

A rested Haaland is a scary prospect for Liverpool. The Norwegian sensation has casually racked up 15 Premier League goals, which already matches the total that made Kevin De Bruyne City’s top scorer in the league last season. Haaland has netted 20 times in just 13 matches across all competitions and averages one goal every 52 minutes. He looks unstoppable when he’s on the pitch and Liverpool could be in for a very rough outing if their lackluster defending continues.
