The NBA will introduce a new format to their All-Star game. Designed to increase competition, the fourth quarter will honor Kobe Bryant. A cumulative score will be tallied through the first three quarters (starting from 0) and the final quarter will see the leading team have to score an additional 24 points in the 4th quarter.

This means that if the leading team has 100 points through the first three quarters, they need to score 124 points in total. The losing team will also need to reach that benchmark but will start from a lesser value.

It will be interesting to see how this format affects the O/U total. With this new format, will the two teams be able to hit the over? Traditionally, All-Star games are high scoring but we’ve never seen this format implemented just yet. Is it risky to bet the over, or is the under the safe bet?

Team LeBron is listed as the favorite to win straight up. It makes sense considering their lineup, but we’ve seen some players step up in All-Star games before and steal victories single handily.
