Milan have picked up three clean sheets in six games and they have conceded only three goals. Their start of the season has been nearly perfect with only Juventus managing to keep them from winning.

The defensive numbers have been particularly impressive considering that Milan lost Gianluigi Donnarumma to PSG in the summer and it was tough to replace him. However, the Italian international hasn’t been missed one bit thus far with Mike Maignan off to a great start at San Siro.

The former Lille goalkeeper has given up only 0.5 goals per game and he boasts a superb 84.2 save percentage. Only Napoli’s David Ospina has been more efficient with his work between the pipes this season (90.9).

Milan’s offense deserves some praise as well. Zlatan Ibrahimovic has logged just 30 minutes of action, but the team has already scored 12 goals. Brahim Diaz has been the main catalyst in attack with three goals and one assist.

Atalanta have been a bit off the pace early in the year, but Gian Piero Gasperini’s men have steadily improved and they frustrated Inter Milan with a 2-2 draw just a week ago.

Gasperini’s side has been among the most exciting teams in Europe for the last few years and they are always a great watch for the neutrals with Josip Ilicic pulling the strings and Luis Muriel and Duvan Zapata putting up spectacular scoring numbers.

The Colombian duo has been a bit quiet so far this season, but it should be only a matter of time before they get going and Milan needs to make sure that it doesn’t happen on Sunday.

Milan ended a three-game winless streak against Atalanta last season when a pair of Franck Kessie penalties helped them to a 2-0 victory at Gewiss Stadium. Atalanta won the reverse fixture 3-0, so it looks like anything could happen in this matchup and we should see a very entertaining clash between two of the league’s top sides.
