Lewandowski bagged a brace in Tuesday’s 5-0 win over Stuttgart and he has now scored 42 Bundesliga goals during the calendar year, which matches Gerd Müller’s all-time record.

Across all competitions, Lewandowski has netted 68 goals in 2021 and that puts him just one away from tying Cristiano Ronaldo’s all-time best of 69 goals from 2013.

The veteran forward is the best natural goalscorer in football and he makes getting goals look very easy having notched 29 goals already in 24 outings this season. In the Bundesliga, Lewandowski boasts 18 goals from 16 appearances and he’s failed to score in just three games. It’s safe to say that the chances of a historic performance on Friday are high.

Lewandowski’s chase for a historic goal(s) will be aided by the fact that he will take on a poor defensive team. Wolfsburg have conceded multiple goals in five straight league outings and they have allowed 25 goals in total in 16 games this season.

The club was very quick to pull the trigger on Mark van Bommel when results started to drop and new manager Florian Kohfeldt likely won’t get a lot of time at the helm either if he can’t steady the boat soon.

Picking up a positive result against Bayern would lift a lot of pressure off Kohfeldt’s shoulders, but Wolfsburg tends to have very little joy in the matchup. They have beaten Bayern just twice in the previous 48 Bundesliga meetings and the Munich side has won seven straight clashes between the two.

Lewandowski typically leads the charge against Wolfsburg. He’s scored 24 career goals in 24 games against them and the 33-year-old has scored more often only versus Dortmund where he has netted 26 times against his former team. Also it’s worthy to mention that Wolfsburg have kept him quiet just once in the past 11 meetings.
