Juve finished last month with a horrible three-game winless run, but they have since then beaten both Fiorentina and Lazio without conceding a single goal. It’s quite an achievement considering that two of the league’s top scorers Dusan Vlahovic and Ciro Immobile play for the teams.
The Old Lady has done pretty well defensively all year with only Torino and Napoli conceding more goals, but they’ve been very inconsistent offensively since Cristiano Ronaldo left town. Juventus have the ninth-worst scoring record in the league ahead of the weekend.
Paulo Dybala’s health issues have played a big part in Juve’s struggles but there have been a lot of players struggling for form as well, including last season’s breakout star Federico Chiesa.
Chiesa had eight goals and eight assists in 30 Serie A appearances last season, and he was one of the stars at the EURO 2020, which prompted Juventus to slap a €100m price tag on him, but the 24-year-old has done very little in the league this season managing only one goal and two assists in 11 games.
Juve are finding it hard to stay in contention for a Champions League berth, but they should improve their league position by a lot if Chiesa manages to find a way to turn around his season.
Atalanta are currently in the final Champions League spot with a four-point advantage over Juventus. They have lost just two league games all season and enter the head-to-head matchup on a six-game unbeaten run.
La Dea has no problems offensively but the team tends to be very open at the back and it’s resulted in more than a few disappointing results. They have a big challenge on their hands trying to stay in this season’s Champions League after playing out a 3-3 draw with Young Boys on Tuesday.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s men had the lead twice in Switzerland but needed some late heroics from Luis Muriel to get even a point on the board. He came off the bench in the 88th-minute and went on to score from a free-kick straight away. Muriel has now scored in back-to-back games after a slow start to the season. He’ll be a major threat for Juve’s defense along with fellow Colombian Duvan Zapata, who’s scored in six consecutive club outings.
