Following PSG’s 3-1 win over Metz on Saturday, Lille have been dropped to second place in the French Ligue 1 and it won’t be easy for them to regain the top spot on Sunday away to Lyon.
These two are very evenly matched sides proven by the fact that four of the last six league meetings have ended in draws. Bookmaker 10Bet has the odds at 3.45 for Lyon and Lille to split the points again.

Lille grabbed a huge 1-0 victory over PSG at the start of the month, which put them in a commanding position in the title fight, but last Friday’s 1-1 home draw with Montpellier left the door open again for the Parisians. It could’ve been even worse if Luiz Araujo hadn’t provided a late equalizer.
Christophe Galtier’s team trailed for only the eighth time this season in the game, which shows how impressive Lille have been in 2020-21. They have the league’s tightest defense and own the best road record with only one loss in 16 outings.
Lille’s away run since December is particularly impressive as the three-time French champion has gone unbeaten in 10 games with nine wins and eight clean sheets.
Lyon’s last home win against Lille came in 2014 when Alexandre Lacazette scored all the goals in a 3-0 victory. It’s been a very poor run for Les Gones and it’s about time they turn the tide in the matchup.
There’s only a three-point gap between the two teams, so this is also a hugely important fixture for Lyon who are having a big bounce-back season after finishing seventh in 2019-2020.
The team dominated Ligue 1 at the start of the century with seven straight title wins but has struggled to keep pace with PSG since QSI arrived in Paris. However, it seems like anybody from the current top-four could end up victorious this season.
Lyon have to improve their consistency to stay in the title race as they head into Sunday’s action off the back of two consecutive wins but managed only one win in five outings before that. They keep conceding goals and Memphis Depay simply isn’t capable of dragging them out of a sticky situation every week.
Memphis has scored twice in both of the last two games, and Lyon will hope that he can find the keys to unlock Lille’s defense that has allowed only 20 goals this season. The Dutch international is having a wonderful campaign with 18 goals and nine assists in 33 league appearances.
