The 20th round of the Estonian Meistriliiga kicks off Friday with Paide Linnameeskond looking to end table-topping FC Flora’s 11-game unbeaten run.

Flora suffered its first and only loss of the season on April 23 against fierce rivals FCI Levadia and the current unbeaten streak coincidentally started with a 3-1 victory over Paide. The run of results also includes a 0-0 draw with Paide played out on June 7.
Paide shocked Flora with a 3-2 win in the Estonian Super Cup back in February but the results in league fixtures have been very one-sided in this match-up. It’s been eight years since Paide last beat Flora in the Meistriliiga and the side from Tallinn is unbeaten in 30 league fixtures since then, winning 22 of the meetings.
The 2023 campaign has been a rough one for Paide so far, with only four wins recorded in 19 outings, but the team has gained a bit of momentum lately with a four-game run without a defeat.
Most of Paide’s troubles have been down to its poor scoring ability as the team has so far found the back of the net only 16 times in 19 games. Robi Saarma and Mechini Gomis have combined for seven goals and no other player has managed more than two goals.
Flora has struck a whopping 47 times already and is well-placed to win its fourth league championship in five years. Paide and Levadia have robbed a few points from Jürgen Henn’s men in recent weeks, but the team’s overall record is still spectacular – 14 wins, four draws, and one loss.
Henn has the league’s best offense at his disposal, and with nine goals conceded so far, Flora is also sharing the best defensive record in the league with Levadia.
Veteran Sergei Zenjov has been leading the Flora attack with eight goals but there have been plenty of contributors all over the pitch. While Saarma is Paide’s top scorer with four goals, Flora boasts seven players who have netted at least as many times. Somebody always seems to pop up with the winning goal and ending Flora’s impressive streak is a difficult task for any team in the league.
